A DAY LIKE THIS

What the day feels like

The road out of Luss climbs quickly into the hills, and by the time you reach Rest and Be Thankful you'll understand the name — it's one of the finest viewpoints on the whole west coast. From there we drop down toward Inveraray, with its turreted castle set against Loch Fyne.

Kilchurn Castle's ruins sit right on the water, and Oban gives you a proper coastal town for lunch — fresh seafood, if you fancy it. St. Conan's Kirk on the way back is a quiet, unexpected favourite of mine, and we'll usually catch the Highland cattle before heading home through Callander.
